Where to Start

Here’s your quick-start checklist:

  1. ✅ Set your date and venue (hire a wedding planner if possible!)
  2. ✅ Set your photography budget
  3. ✅ Research 3–5 photographers in your area
  4. ✅ Reach out and inquire asap!
  5. ✅ Be prepared to sign a contract and pay a retainer

TIP: Skip huge directories. Go straight to Google, Instagram, or local Facebook wedding groups for real referrals.

What Actually Matters When Booking

✅ Must-Haves:

  • A style you love (check full galleries, not just Instagram!)
  • Experience (wedding days can have unplanned surprises)
  • Solid reviews / testimonials
  • Clear communication & contract
  • Availability for your date
  • Are they fully insured

🚫 Don’t Worry About:

  • Whether they’ve shot your venue before (pros adapt fast!)
  • Trendy editing styles that don’t match your vision
  • Album and art work — you can always add those later

Questions to Ask

Don’t waste time with long email chains. These are the 7 key questions to ask photographers:

  1. Are you available on my date?
  2. Can I see 1–2 full wedding galleries?
  3. What’s your booking process and turnaround time?
  4. How do you handle wedding day timelines and do you help with that?
  5. What’s the retainer, and when is the balance due?
  6. Do you have backup plans in place for emergencies?
  7. Will YOU be my photographer or do you hire subcontractors or associate photographers?

What You Should Receive (At Minimum)

A professional should provide:

  • Written contract + invoice
  • Clear package details (hours, inclusions, gallery delivery time)
  • Guidance on timeline or photo list
  • Access to engagement session or add-on options (if time allows)

Red Flags

🚩 No full galleries to show

🚩 Poor communication (slow, vague, or pushy)

🚩 “Too good to be true” pricing with no reviews

🚩 No written contract

How to Know When You've Found “The One”

(Your Photographer, Not Your Fiancé)

When you know what to look for, the right one stands out fast.

1. You Connect With Their Work Instantly

Do their images make you feel something? Can you picture yourself in them? That’s a strong sign.

2. They "Get" You

Are they responsive, kind, and easy to talk to? The right photographer will calm your nerves, not add to them.

3. Their Process Feels Easy

Clear packages, a simple contract, and fast communication = green flags.

4. You Keep Coming Back

If you find yourself revisiting their work again and again, comparing others to them—it’s probably them.

Bottom Line:

When the style, experience, and connection all align—it’s time to book.

You deserve a photographer you’re excited about. If you’re reading this and thinking “yes, this is what I want,” I’d love to hear from you.

The right photographer can make all the difference in creating beautiful, stress-free memories. I customize my packages for each event after hearing about their needs. My rates range from $2,500 - $10,000 (and beyond for multi day events). I offer payment plans to help with budgeting if needed. Reach out so we can discuss some options, I'd love to hear about your plans!

I hope this guide helps you take the first confident step.
